Festivals

As a result of regular classwork students enjoy working as a team, and regularly take part in group acting classes at local Arts Festivals. This involves presenting a scene or scenes from a play, concentrating on characterisation, vocal skills and a spontaneous and realistic communication of the text. Pupils learn self-discipline and the ability to interact with fellow actors, whilst thoroughly enjoying the experience. Solo and duologue classes are also really popular and rewarding.

At the annual Royal Wootton Bassett Arts Festival, usually scheduled during the Autumn, students regularly gain recognition by entering classes (often being placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd) in solo verse-speaking, and also solo or duologue classes in acting. Trophies and medals are awarded and pupils have also received specialist trophies, such as the Diamond Award, the Mayor’s Shield and the Rose Bowl. Our group acting scene from ‘Thieves’ Carnival,’ by Jean Anouilh, was a particular highlight, receiving 90 marks in the ‘Outstanding’ category.
